Someone's YouTube channel will permanently close down due to a legal attack by a family-friendly gaming company. Believe it or not, we saw this coming.

The situation

Nintendo is not only beloved for its games and characters, but for its music as well.

Many legendary music tracks have derived from Nintendo games, such as the main theme from Super Mario Bros. or Saria's Song from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time that fans adore - even when they're not playing the games.
Nintendo tracks have even been frequently sampled in mainstream music, sometimes decades after the track was initially released.

A YouTube channel dedicated to soundtracks from beloved Nintendo games has been attacked by none other than Nintendo.

Nintendo has forcibly removed thousands of videos from the channel via copyright strike, even though the owner of the channel credits Nintendo and does not monetarily benefit from the videos.
In response, the owner of the channel has decided to shut down the channel permanently.

Boiling it down

On YouTube and Twitch, creators must receive the permission of the music label before using the related piece of music in their video, else risk demonetization or even a ban from using the platform.
Content creators have been vocal about the practice, with the penalties being sometimes viewed as too severe.

Despite it's games, Nintendo's history with copyrighting has been anything but friendly.

The company has a reputation for relentlessly going after individuals and organizations that use their properties without permission.
Nintendo has a very specific way they want to be perceived by the public, which is threatened when unauthorized people use their properties in a way that Nintendo cannot control.
