Lamborghini now has an esports team

One of Italy's most luxurious auto companies is getting into esports. The sim racing scene is hotter than ever.

Automobili Lamborghini, or simply Lamborghini, shouldn't need an introduction.

Founded in 1963, Lamborghini is an Italian line of luxury sports cars and SUVs which was initially created to compete with Ferrari.

Lamborghini has found another way to compete with Ferrari with the launch of their own sim racing (simulation racing) esports team.

The Automobili Lamborghini Esports Team are competing firstly in the GT World Challenge Esports Championship, a major sim racing tournament, that is currently ongoing.
The esports team will be fully staffed with a team principal, drivers, coaches, and engineers to make the project the most competitive.

Sim racing is exactly what it sounds like - virtual racing simulators that accurately simulates auto racing to an extraordinary degree.

Sim racing takes an incredible amount of skill, as drivers must contend with real driving variables such as fuel usage, tire wear, and suspension.
Although the esport is one of the oldest, viewership was reignited during the pandemic with 20 million hours watched in 2020.

This isn't Lamborghini's first kick-at-the-tires when it comes to sim racing.

The company founded The Real Race in 2020, a virtual sim racing tournament which attracted 1.15 million unique viewers in its inaugural year.
Lamborghini will face steep competition with their team, as many established car brands have their own highly renowned sim racing teams - including Ferrari.
