The situation

From hosting virtual concerts to its crossovers with household IPsFortnite has gone a long way from its humble beginnings as a cartoonish battle royale game. 

  • The title has become more of a creative platform, allowing for players to create their own worlds as well as providing other forms of digital entertainment.

In partnership with TIMEFortnite's latest foray in such alternative entertainment is a virtual recreation of the March on Washington

Boiling it down

Video games have a bad rep of being mindless fun, but they can also be powerful educational tools for a generation more in tune with technology

The education system has recognized this and as a result have taken advantage of video game learning in the classroom. 

  • The Assassin's Creed games, famed for its stealth combat, has a virtual museum where students can tour and discover a variety of historical sites in Ancient Egypt. 
  • An non-profit NGO has created a massive library in survival game Minecraft that houses banned books and articles in order to circumvent censorship in countries without freedom of the press.
