What's the fuss?

A reputable leaker has revealed that the mythical next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series won't see the light of day for a while, due to some specific and topical reasons.

The situation

Spanning 7 mainline games and 9 spin off titles, the Grand Theft Auto (GTA) series is the 6th best selling video game franchise of all time. 

  • The franchise is beloved for its immersive, realistic world that allows the player to do almost anything, but is also steeped in controversy for its adult nature and abundance of violence.
  • Historically, we have gotten a new GTA title around every 3 years, but we've been waiting almost 8 years for Grand Theft Auto 6.

Gamers have been waiting patiently for an official announcement, but in the meantime a leaker has revealed we can expect the game sometime in 2025.

Boiling it down

The main reason why we haven't gotten a new GTA title is simple - Grand Theft Auto 5 just makes too much money. 

The studio behind the series has caught flack for what's known as crunch (i.e. working their employees to the bone). 

  • In response to these shocking revelations of 100 hour work weeks, the studio has reportedly revitalized their work culture to allow for better work-life balance.
  • It's likely that they're sticking with this new outlook to avoid another PR nightmare.
