YouTube's TimTheTatman now partly owns Complexity Gaming

What's the fuss?

One of the biggest video game streamers in the world just became part-owner of an eSports organization owned by the Dallas Cowboys. Steaming is a whole different ball game than it was only some years ago.

The situation

Timothy "TimTheTatman" Betar first started streaming in 2012 to audiences in the single digits.

Since then, he has amassed more than 7 million followers, corresponding with approximately 700 million collective views on his streams.
Such success has led to many high-profile opportunities for the streamer, but this one is his biggest yet.

Tim recently became not only a content creator for, but part-owner of Complexity Gaming - a major professional American eSports organization.

Headquartered in Texas, the organization has won over 140 championships since its inception in 2003.
Tim now co-owns the organization alongside Dallas Cowboys' owner Jerry Jones as well as a Toronto-based organization.

Boiling it down

These mega-deals for online content creators wasn't even remotely fathomable 2 years ago.

It wasn't until an 8-figure deal between Microsoft and Twitch's most followed streamer that gave precedence on how much these streamers are really worth.

There's tons of money to be made in eSports, but even more in content creation.

Media (i.e. game streaming, video production, etc.) brings with it recurring revenue through ads, merchandise, and other branding initiatives from vapid followers.
Revenue in eSports is much less regular, attained mainly though temporary sponsorship deals and infrequent tournament winnings.
It's in eSports organizations' best interests to diversify their revenue streams in order to reach profitability - a rarity in eSports right now.
