Netflix is testing out its gaming service, in Poland

This story about a country-wide test drive, boiled down, in 1:16 minutes.

What's the fuss?

Netflix has begun testing its foray into video games in a very specific location. Even though the sample size is small, it should give them a good indication of their subscriber base's appetite for gaming.

The situation

Despite Netflix being one of the most popular streaming services in the world, it has lost almost half a million subscribers in the last quarter coupled with slower growth in North America.

  • In an attempt to restore themselves to their former glory, Netflix announced that the service will start to offer video games in conjunction with its existing services at no extra cost, focusing first on mobile games.

A month since the original announcement, Netflix is test driving their gaming service - in Poland, and for Android users only.

  • Paying subscribers will have access to two mobile/phone games: Stranger Things: 1984 and Stranger Things 3, both based on the titular show.
  • Much like the regular service, gamers won't be exposed to ads or other supplemental purchases.

Boiling it down

When you think of gaming capitals of the world, Poland may not come to mind.

Netflix has already experimented with interactive content through some of its films.
