Chris Pratt's Super Mario voice has been revealed

The first look at the upcoming Super Mario Bros. movie just dropped, and fans finally heard the voice of Mario - for better or for worse.

Nintendo first announced an animated movie based on the Super Mario Bros. franchise back in 2018, and released the names of the voice cast a few years later.

The star-studded cast includes Jack Black as Bowser, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, and Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy, The LEGO Movie, etc.) as the titular Mario.
Fans were concerned that not having the original voice actor, who has voiced the iconic character for over 30 years, would tarnish Mario's image.

Nintendo has just dropped the first trailer that gives fans a brief glimpse of the film - including Chris Pratt's Mario voice.

Initial reactions to the film's visuals has been very positive, as they seem to be quite faithful to the game franchise's later entries.
Responses to the voice of Mario is more mixed, with many saying "it's literally just Chris Pratt's voice coming out of Mario".

Mario has never really been a fully voiced character.

In the games, Mario mostly just makes noises for different actions (i.e. jumping, falling, etc.) with very limited vocal vocabulary.
As such, Mario is beloved around the world because everyone can understand him - no matter the language.

This isn't Nintendo's first attempt at a Mario movie.

1993's live action Super Mario Bros. film, starring Bob Hoskins, was a critical and commercial failure.
The advancements in animation since then, in addition to how successful modern animated films are, must have given Nintendo newfound confidence in an adaptation.
