Famous streamer Ninja will be playable in Raid: Shadow Legends

This story about games partnering with gamers, boiled down, in 1:23 minutes.

What's the fuss?

The most followed streamer on Twitch is getting his own video game character, again. The partnership is an interesting one, especially when he has never played the game on stream.

The situation

You may have heard of the mobile gatcha game Raid: Shadow Legends from their aggressive marketing tactics through both TV and through sponsoring influential content creators.

  • The game is a free turn-based battle strategy game where players can purchase and upgrade select champions with real money to progress.
  • The newest champion will be based on the likeness of the most-followed streamer on Twitch, Ninja.

Ninja, in the form of what looks like to be an ethereal samurai warrior, will be joining the roster of over 500 champions due to his "positive impact in the gaming industry", according to the developer's VP of Marketing

  • This isn't the first time he's appeared in a game, having his own Fortnite skin since last year.
  • Fans will be keen to watch Ninja's livestream on July 19th where he will go into further detail about his character.

Boiling it down

New games, if they have the financial resources, will often partner with content creators to boost the reach of their game.

Ninja has no doubt made significant contributions on bringing gaming to the mainstream as a viable form of entertainment, often being considered as the first true "gaming celebrity".

  • However, his recent average viewership has dwindled compared to his heights realized in 2018.
  • There's a chance that Ninja may not attract as many new players as the developer intended, especially considering the likely pretty penny Ninja charged them for his involvement.
